Hämarik inherited her father's blindness. She is named after dusk, because of the distress that the passing of that detrimental trait brought to her family. Armastus had been seen as a one-off, a fluke, but his blindness continuing into the next generation was not a welcome development for the pack. Her whole life Hämarik struggled with acceptance. Her parents are loving and caring, and so is the rest of her family, but even her blind father didn't really know what to do with her. Armastus had grown up coddled for his disability and in a litter of 20 it didn't seem like such a detriment, but for his only daughter to also be blind was difficult for him to get comfortable with. Her mother was grateful at least that she did not inherit the mist genes and wouldn't be at risk for drifting around as a mist with no sight. Her closest ally within the family is her great grandfather, Avery, who let her stay underfoot in his shop as often as she wanted to be when she was a tiny, lonely pup.
She was born with a star sapphire on her forehead, and at first it didn't seem as though any good would come of it (the way that Armastus' opal helps him perceive despite his blindness) but as she grew and its powers strengthened she began to realize that it did help her.
The stone both helped her to gain peace with her situation and center her, but also gifted her with clairvoyance and the ability to see through the actions of those around her to their greater intentions.
She remains wary, both in her general nature and as a result of her upbringing, but as she developed her senses from her stone she became less moody, more accepting and introspective. She didn't spend much time advertising her ability to predict things or read others, but gradually her family recognized it as it happened. Though she was still often overlooked for slinking around on the outskirts of the pack gatherings and territory, her value, though late blooming, was eventually fully recognized.
